Since its founding in 2017, OokiiSoraCon has hosted a convention-wide, weekend-long House Cup. When attendees pick up their badge at registration, they also receive a house assignment. Throughout the weekend, attendees can participate in activities around the convention to earn points for their house. At the end of the weekend, the house with the most points wins, and the MVPs for each house win a prize. The House Cup is a tradition OokiiSoraCon plans to continue.
Overview

This application consists of two parts. First, an administrative website allows OokiiSoraCon staff to log in and enter the points, badge name/number, and house for attendees as they win points. Admins can view the current standings of the four houses, the top ten players for each house, and the history of points entered into the database. Super admins also have an area to create new and edit existing admin accounts and view a log of created, edited, and deleted points. This piece of the application has a PHP and MySQL backend, and I used Bootstrap 4 to style the frontend.
The second half of the application displays the house standings and newly earned points in a fun way. It retrieves the current standings from the administrative website through a simple API. During the convention, this application is displayed in a central location. Attendees can also find a web version online. I built this visualization with Unity 3D and C# for Desktop computers and the Unity Web Player.
Convention Appearances

This framework has supported OokiiSoraCon 2019’s Ookiimon League House Cup and the OokiiSoraCon House Cups 2022 through 2025. I created and maintain the web app, and Sydney Schell has created artwork to theme the visualizations for each year.
I’ve extended the administrative website, API, and visualization framework in several ways since their creation in 2019:
- 2022 – The administrative website and visualization framework were modified to handle multiple years of data.
- 2023 – The administrative website and visualization framework were modified to record and display the “Reason” points were earned.
- 2024 – The visualization framework was modified to handle a new visualization method.
- 2025 – The API and visualization framework were modified to display the percentage each house had earned in comparison to the top house and to handle a new Rankings view.

The publicly available areas of the administrative website can be viewed here. The visualizers for all previous House Cups are viewable here:

Reception

The application has received great reviews. Attendees enjoy seeing their points tip the scales, and staff members find the administrative area easy to use. OokiiSoraCon plans to continue improving the application and modifying the visualization to match the theme of each year’s House Cup.
